The primary purpose of the USG Course Guide is to serve as an informational tool for students and faculty. In recent years, the University of Southern California has seen a steady increase in the academic quality of its students. This website aids students in formulating class schedules of appropriate academic rigor and learning experience, thus enabling the university to better meet the diverse academic needs of the student body. Because the University of Southern California is committed to the education of its students, it is important that all avenues of promoting knowledge be made available to students to support their academic growth.
The role and mission of the University of Southern California states, “Our first priority as faculty and staff is the education of our students, from freshmen to postdoctoral, through a broad array of academic, professional, extracurricular, and athletic programs of the first rank… We strive constantly for excellence in teaching knowledge and skills to our students, while at the same time helping them to acquire wisdom and insight, love of truth and beauty, moral discernment, understanding of self, and respect and appreciation for others.” In addition, the university has stated in its strategic plan that it seeks to develop activities in the area of faculty by “nurtur[ing] and recruit[ing] outstanding faculty… who will enthusiastically teach undergraduates as well as graduate students.” This website provides a venue through which faculty can be informed of their effectiveness in achieving the university’s goals on an ongoing basis.
The USC Undergraduate Student Government vision statement, reads, in part, “With the goal of promoting open communication among the students, the faculty, and the administration, the Undergraduate Student Government will function as the voice of the undergraduate student body. As an organization existing to provide students with the services of advocacy and activities, we will represent and reflect the interests of the constituencies, and foster the relationship with the students and organizations to provide a unified voice for the students of this university.” In response to continuing interest from the student body, the Undergraduate Student Government seeks to enable students to openly communicate with each other and with faculty as they use this online resource.
The USC Undergraduate Student Government strives to hold each University member to the highest standards in the usage of this website, and all users of the website will be kept to the ideals of the honor system. Reviews should be constructive and beneficial in concord with the USC Undergraduate Student Government’s vision of the website as a useful tool for both students and faculty.
