What exactly does USG do?
The Undergraduate Student Government is ther governing body for undergraduates here at the University of Southern California. It serves as a advocate for the student body and acts as a liasion for students to the administration, faculty, and alumni.
How many people are in the organization?
There is around 100 students of all levels.
What exactly does USG do?
The organization is broken down into four different branches - executive, legislative, judicial, and programming.
What does the Executive Branch do?
The President, Vice President, and Advocacy Directors lead the students by supporting their interests, oversee USG progress, and provide funding to student organizations
What does the legislative Branch do?
Elected senators convene weekly to legislate on issues facing all students constituencies - Commuters, Greeks, and Residential.
What are the functions of the Judicial branch?
Justices uphold the USG Constitution and Bylaws, hear student complaints, and maintain the organization's system of checks and balances.
What does the Programming Branch do?
Program Board plans/hosts a variety of events that you see around campus such as concerts, host speakers, and put on cultural events that represents a variety of student interests.
How do I get invovled?
USG provides many opportunities for leadership, development, and involvement within the USC community. The best way to get involved is to join committees or become senators’ aides. There are committees in advocacy, funding, and outreach for the communication team, and these applications are accepted on a - rolling basis throughout the year.
What kind of changes has USG made on campus?
Some of the change that USG has made on campus are:
- Trojan Grounds now open 24 hours.
- Restoration of student football tickets to a desirable location closer to the 50 yard line after the University decreased the student section due to chaos during some home games.
- Lyon Center is now open until midnight.
- 21 Choices, a frozen yogurt store, in the University Village.
- Stop-light at 28th and Hoover
- Under Jessica Lall, former USG President, USG pushed for the construction of the new Tutor Campus Center.
- Course Guide: a website that allows students to evaluate their teachers and classes.
- VoteSCount pushed the registration and political activity of students with CALPIRG.
- Free Legal Counseling.
